TEHRAN – The president of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has warned that Israel’s continued obstruction of aid into Gaza is poised to create a devastating humanitarian disaster in the enclave. 

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Pir Hossein Kolivand highlighted the hindrance created by the Israeli regime in sending humanitarian aid to Gaza, noting that only a quarter of the global assistance has successfully reached Gaza. “This will eventually lead to a disaster unpreceded in the past century,” the official warned. 

He confirmed official figures saying over 30,000 individuals have so far lost their lives during Israel’s killing campaign in Gaza. “Over 72,000 have sustained injuries and with little to no access to medical care, their conditions are nosediving quickly,” Kolivand stated.

Koolivand also announced that amidst these dire conditions, 24,000 infants were born without essential services in Gaza. “The regime continues to target women, children, and vital medical facilities,” he lamented. 

Furthermore, Koolivand elaborated on the detrimental effects of the Israeli war, resulting in the forced displacement of communities and the perpetration of heinous atrocities. He mentioned that in order to address these critical issues, the Iranian Red Crescent Society has initiated a summit, inviting global stakeholders, legal experts, and policymakers to collectively address these pressing humanitarian concerns.

The head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society disclosed plans for specialized sessions within the summit, expressing optimism that the international legal and intellectual community will mobilize efforts for an escalated global response advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza.

An international conference on the occupation of Palestine, focusing on international law perspectives and the significance of humanitarian laws in Gaza, is scheduled to convene with the participation of Iranian and foreign dignitaries on Thursday.
